Legend. Champion. Water girl. That's the Candice Appleby we've known over past years. Winning the BoP 6X and PPG 3X running, racing and surfing on the APP World Tour, mentoring Shae Foudy and others, Candice's path is riddled with success. Things have been quiet for the all-star, top athlete in the past several months. We decided to take a look into what this Infinity SUP Team Rider has been up to. Here's what we found out:
Candice Appleby represents USA in ISA World Championships
Candice brought her A-Game to the ISA World SUP & Paddleboard Championships in El Salvador this past November. Even though she was recovering from an injury sustained in summer, Team USA's 4X individual ISA SUP Racing Gold Medalist and Pan Am Games recent Silver Medalist, Appleby brought her commitment, strong lead & positive influence to El Sunzal in order to represent Team USA.
“[I was] still recovering from breaking my finger in August and wasn’t necessarily planning on getting back into competition so soon, but I would never miss an ISA World Championship and the opportunity to represent my country. It [was] truly an honor to be a part of this prestigious event and I wear the USA flag proudly.”
Candice as Women's Commentator for APP World Tour
After El Sunzal, Candice committed to recovering from her hip and hand injuries. In a smart move, the APP World Tour snapped her up to commentate on the women's SUP racing events for the second half of the Tour. Candice did a great job giving an informed and keen-eyed description of the treacherous waters running under the Golden Gate Bridge while keeping watch over the 5 women racers who took to the water for this year's Red Bull Heavy Water, the extreme SUP racing event on the APP World Tour.
Next, she joined the APP Tour in Paris, France for the final showdown, Sprint and Distance, on the racing tour. She gave a blow-by-blow description of the Sprints in the indoor pool at the Salon Nautique Boat Show in Paris. The next day, she commentated on the women pro stand up paddle racers flying down the Seine River to the final moments which crowned Seychelle as the 2019 World Champion for the women. Candice's eye, wit and deep knowledge of the costs & skills of stand up paddle racing, plus her close relationship within the ranks of the female pros, gave the APP Tour a depth and presence for the women not seen before.
Motivational Speaker: A New Side of Candice Appleby
Most recently, Appleby had the opportunity to inspire a room full of professionals to live a better life through a life of purpose. In a carefully crafted motivational speech made for the men and women at Gynesonics, Candice shares her story and journey in overcoming hardship to individuals in need of encouragement. Candice's powerful presence undoubtedly makes this the first of many such speaking engagements.
Foot Clinics, Race Training and Give Backs: Candice Rising
Rounding out her schedule, Candice is building her upcoming schedule to offer her popular foot clinics, stroke techniques and informed paddle manipulation to raise performance levels in her client's SUP race training.
In addition to these race training clinics, Candice gives her time in support of events which are fundraisers for important causes. She is an advocate for this year's 2020 Panda Paddle, a full-day festival at Dana Point, California bringing people together on the water to raise awareness about important environmental causes. The event is hosted by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and is a favorite in the SoCal paddling community.
