SEA Paddle NYC 2017 and the boys at the front of the pack
OXBOW sends only its most stalwart of warriors to test the waters around Manhattan. In 2017, in order to showcase the gleaming new lines of OXBOW’s racing designs, the Teulade brothers took up the challenge to race up the East River – through Hell’s Gate – to make the turn onto the Harlem River. The course then runs up to Columbia University where paddler’s duck under the train bridge to where the rivers connect to stand on Manhattan’s greatest tributary, the Hudson River, and battle the winds and current another eight miles to the finish.
This 24-mile course is arguably one of the hardest in the sup racing scene due to conditions, currents, boat traffic and more. But, with the Manhattan skyline as your backdrop and moments like paddling under the George Washington Bridge or through Hell’s Gate, it is a rite of passage you’ll never forget.
