I began surfing along the Jersey Shore as a child in the early 70’s. Little did I know that 45 years later I’d still be doing it. About ten years ago I took my first paddling strokes on a stand up paddle board and I’ve been hooked ever since. The paddle board lets you appreciate the ocean whether there are waves or not. When there’s surf I can be found catching waves on the ocean, but even when the ocean is flat I can do a distance paddle for exercise or just simply enjoy being out in nature on a river, lake or bay.
Over the years, I’ve surfed everywhere from rocky shores of Maine and Nova Scotia down to the sandy beaches of the Outer Banks and Florida. I’ve surfed the beautiful Caribbean beaches of Tortola, St. Martin, Puerto Rico, Antigua, St. Kitts, and Barbados as well as the beautiful point breaks of El Salvador. I’ve also surfed the California coast as well as Mexico and Hawaii, but there’s still nothing like the beaches of New Jersey.
I am also the founder and owner at Paddle Surf New Jersey, an SUP Instructional school now entering our fifth year. Three years ago I also founded the Treasure Island Pirate Paddle, an SUP and Prone race that has attracted close to 200 participants each year. the event raises money that is donated to a small local K thru 8 school.
