While completing her Master’s in Marine Science, April began paddling recreationally to beat the stress of the day. Enjoying the social aspect as well as the health benefits encouraged her to start attending regional SUP races and even share the sport abroad. Today April is one of the top paddlers on the east coast. She is a 2x WPA and Salt Life Cup Champion, and has secured top 5 finishes in the Euro Tour and the Carolina Cup. In SUP Surfing, she is the East Coast Champion. April is currently ranked #9 in the world, and has held down a top 10 spot for 3 years.
When she’s not competing or training, she’s giving lessons, teaching clinics, guiding SUP yoga or SUP surfing. In 2012, she spent the year living and paddling in India, introducing locals to the sport, volunteering at events, and finding new and exciting places to paddle.While exploring the Indian Himalayas with inflatable boards, she paddled the Zanskar, the Indus and many high-altitude lakes, including Suraj Tal at 16,020 feet, which the current record for highest SUP session. She has SUP surfed in India, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, Fiji, Costa Rica, and Mexico. Currently, she teaches in Wrightsville Beach with Carolina Paddleboard Co and spends her down time surfing, diving, beach combing, and living the Salt Life with her dog Kaya.
