16-YR. OLD FISHER GRANT ROCKS THE SHOW
Coming off the first successful year of the Eastern Surfing Association’s inclusion of sup in their contests, one of the many bonuses was discovering new talent… Today we wanna look at one such standout: Fisher Grant.
He is 16, a resident of Winter Park, FL, yet he has managed to pull off what most kids living on the coast can only imagine. Eight East Coast titles in just over the past year. The most recent Awards were earned at the ESA (Eastern Surfing Association) 2012 Easterns.
This was our 45th annual championships, held this year in Nag’s Head NC the “Outer Banks”, where districts from New England to Florida send their best to vie for and East Coast Title. He dominated the Jr Longboard Division by showcasing his performance-style skills in wave conditions that were every surfers dream, “head-high”, glassy, light offshore winds, ultimately defending his title from last year.
In addition, Fisher won our inaugural “Stand-up Paddle”/surf division, held earlier in the week, wowing the crowd pulling extremely radical maneuvers which was not easy as the conditions were altogether different when challenging winds topped 30 mph!
His accomplishments haven’t gone unnoticed, as he was inducted into the ESA All Star Team which recognizes and includes an Elite group of competitive surfers who represent the ESA as the best of the East Coast! Other recent victories for Fisher include his 2 wins at the 50th annual ECSC (East Coast Surf Championships), a Pro-Am event held in Virginia Beach, VA this past August.
Finally, two weekends ago, Fisher won both the Jr. Men’s Longboard and the Open (all ages) Longboard, and placed 2nd in the Jr. Men’s Shortboard divisions at the Florida Surfing Championships held at Jacksonville Beach Pier. What makes this kid special is that he is dominate in Longboard, Shortboard, and Stand-up paddle, when most surfers only master one aspect.
