WaveJet and Pau Hana SUP Take on Vail To Launch New Powered SUP

Award Winning Brands Kick off Partnership in Vail May 31 – June 3
May 24, 2012 – The Edison Award Winning WaveJet Propulsion and Outside Magazine’s recent Gear of the Year 2012 recipient, Pau Hana SUP will head to Vail, Colorado to launch the new WaveJet-Ready Pau Hana Big EZ and WaveJet Pau Hana Big EZ System during the Teva Mountain Games.
The two brands came together in early 2012 to develop a co-branded stand-up paddle board that would combine the expert shaping and design of Pau Hana founder, Todd Caranto with WaveJet Propulsion technology, to create boards that range from beginner and resort focused to high performance. The WaveJet-Ready Pau Hana Big EZ is their first release.

WaveJet , founded by San Diego surfer Mike Railey, is the first patented Personal Water Propulsion (PWP) system designed for use in a range of personal watercraft, including surfboards, SUPs, kayaks, rescue boards, body boards, scuba gear, and light boats. Railey’s initial objective in developing WaveJet technology was borne out of a desire to create a product that would enable him to surf bigger waves without necessitating a tow-in. Powered by an integrated twin-lithium ion battery pack with twin jet drives, WaveJet is capable of 20 pounds of thrust with a continuous run-time of up to 40-60 minutes and is activated through a wireless wrist controller. WaveJet was awarded the prestigious Edison Award in spring 2012, for innovation in travel technology, sharing the honor with Space X’s Falcon 9 Rocket and Dragon spacecraft.
Pau Hana Surf Supply was founded by Todd Caranto and Royce Hanamaikai in 2006. 18 months later, Pau Hana SUP was founded by Caranto in 2008. Pau Hana, [pronounced: pow HAH-nah], is a Hawaiian phrase that means “Work is over.” “Pau Hana Time” encapsulates the spirit of play and good times with friends and family. To that end, Pau Hana Surf Supply is a design and manufacturing company that builds equipment for that purpose. Athlete and board designer Todd Caranto, researches, designs, builds, rides, and tests all of its stand-up paddle boards, adhering to a rigorous iterative development strategy. Pau Hana was named Outside Magazine’s 2012 Gear of the Year in spring 2012, the first time such an award has been given for stand-up paddle boards.
WaveJet and Pau Hana will have the new system on display at Vail Village’s Bridge Street Skihaus from May 31 – June 4. The team will be joined by big wave champion and WaveJet team rider, Garrett McNamara, who was recently named to the Guinness Book of World Records for the 78+ foot wave he surfed at Praia de Norte in Nazare Canyon, Portugal, and who will be demoing the board, signing posters and meeting with fans throughout the week.
