Standup For The Cure is an excellent opportunity for families, friends and breast cancer survivors to raise funds to help save lives; it’s also a fun way to learn how to standup paddleboard, a water sport that originated in Hawaii.
The purpose is to have a blast standup paddling (SUP) around Newport Beach, CA while raising awareness of breast cancer and funds in support of the OC Affiliate of Susan G Komen for the Cure Every $125 we raise may save a life by enabling a mammogram!
The event features a “Sea of Pink” Paddle for paddlers of all ages and abilities, as a ceremonial parade in celebration of the breast cancer survivors. Immediately following the fun paddle are the 5K, kids race, and the team relay races. There will be live musical entertainment by the Wheeland Brothers, a SUP clinic lead by world-class paddler, Zane Schweitzer, a yoga paddleboard lesson for breast cancer survivors lead by survivor, Suzanne Yeo, and an exhibitors expo. “Every family is affected by cancer in some way. We all share that connection. I am honored to have the opportunity to give back in a way that is so close to home, along with raising awareness for patients and families. Helping people is an honor and privilege and I believe it’s my calling.,” said, Kala Alexander, Vice President of the Mauli Ola Foundation, who will also be traveling from Hawaii, to be onsite to attend and participate.
