Early last Friday morning, a small team were loading a plane with equipment at the Royal Flying Doctor Service Cairns base. On top of the normal medical equipment & supplies, room was made for something a little different.
8 inflatable stand up paddle boards supplied by Red Paddle Co had arrived the day before, specifically flown over from the UK to support a collaboration between the RFDS & Glide Watersports. The SUP boards are vital part of the SUP KIDS program, an educational SUP & water safety program that can be delivered in the most remote locations to local kids. The objective is for them to experience the joy of SUP’ing, learn vital water safety skills, increase their self esteem by learning a new sport & understand the importance of respecting their environment.
Red Paddle Co’s strap line is ‘Authentic Paddling Anywhere’, which suited the location of the first Field Day at Barenya Station. The cattle station is located in drought stricken Western Queensland, 800 km’s inland from Cairns.
Mick Wilcomes, Owner Glide Watersports said :
I’m really grateful to Rove & the team at The Project, for picking up the story and giving us the opportunity to share the unique stuff that we’ve been working. This was our first Field Day and we’re really excited to continue this work and see how many kids we can reach in these remote areas.’
