Nikki Gregg discusses the risks and benefits to wearing leashes on the river, how to wear them properly, and when to wear it and when not to.

Nikki points out the swimming in a rapid can be one of the most dangerous situations to be in on a river, but being tied to something comes in a close second.

Leashes allow you to fall safely away from your board while still being able to get back to your board quickly.

If you choose to wear a leash, make sure you use the safest QUICK RELEASE leash available.

Nikki also shows us a pro-tip of how to properly attach your quick release leash mechanism to avoid a possible malfunction.

There are a some occasions you would not want to wear a leash at all such as in a shallow contracted river where your board is less likely to get away from you and your leash is more likely to snag on obstacles.

Another instance is if you don’t have a quick release system, and finally, NEVER attach your leash to your ankle in a river. This is a death trap!
