Connor Baxter secures the 2014 World Series Racing Title after an epic year

Connor Baxter secures the 2014 World Series Racing Title after an epic year

Connor Baxter (Starboard) had a stellar year in 2014, making no mistakes on his way to his first World Title on the Stand Up World Series, getting the better of 2012 and 13 World Champion Kai Lenny (Naish) in advance of the World Series Finals at Turtle Bay.

Connor started the year out with a convincing win in Brazil, kicking his title campaign off in the right way. He then had to settle for second in Abu Dhabi, just falling short of arch rival Kai Lenny, only to come back on top in Germany, where he secured his second win of the season.

He then backed it up with the final win he needed to secure the Title at the Huntington Beach Pro Grand Slam, presented by Starboard and thereby securing his first World Title in dramatic fashion at the heart of Surf City USA.

Connor will be making the most of the off season at home in Maui over the winter months, before stepping up to do battle in 2015 when competition resumes with the new season in March.

Lina Augaitis secures the 2014 Women’s World Title after a battle to the end

Lina Augaitis secures the 2014 Women's World Title after a battle to the end

Lina Augaitis came into her own this year on the Stand up World Series securing the World Title in her first year: an incredible achievement by the Canadian powerhouse.

She missed the first event in Brazil, but asserted her authority at the Abu Dhabi All Stars, dominating the Long distance and finishing 2nd in the sprints that was enough to take the win at this second stop of the 2014 season.

She then went onto Germany and dominated the event, with victories in both sprint and long distance races to take her second win of the season.

A 4th place in Huntington Beach was not enough to secure the Title for 2014, as the battle with Australia’s leading Lady Angela Jackson (Fanatic) was intensifying, and a slow start in the World Series Finals at Turtle Bay in the challenging Long distance Race on Day 1 meant that it was all down to the Final day of competition, the World Series Sprints.

With both Angie and Lina having to go through the repechage to make it through the rounds, they both ended up in the Final, as it all came down to one heat for this 2 Champions, a heat that would decide the 2014 World Title.

In the end it was Lina’s as her second place behind event winner Halie Harrison in the sprints was enough to secure the 2014 World Title – an incredible year for the Canadian talent as we look forward to a new year of action set to kick off in March here on the 2014 Stand Up World Series.

Kai Lenny secures his 4th Surfing World Title on the Stand Up World Tour

Kai Lenny secures his 4th Surfing World Title on the Stand Up World Tour

Kai Lenny (Naish) had another incredible year this year on both the Stand Up World Surfing Tour and Racing Series, as he finished in a close second to Connor Baxter (Starboard) in the Racing, with 2 wins and a second place as his counting results enough to finish right behind Connor in the Overall.

In the Surfing, it was one of the most exciting battles yet here on the Stand Up World Tour, as Kai started off the year slowly, for him, with a second in Sunset and an uncharacteristic 13th place in Brazil, while his Brazilian rival Caio Vaz (Art in Surf) notched up 2 straight victories, one at home and one in Kai’s home, Hawaii.

However the tide turned in Abu Dhabi, as Kai stepped up to take the win in the wave pool and continued his momentum to take the win in Huntington Beach as well, meaning that it would all come down to the Final event in la Torche to decide the 2014 World Champion, with 2 wins a piece for the 2 Contenders.

As they both progressed through the rounds, tension mounted, as Kai was able to release a sigh of relief in the quarters, as fellow Maui boy Zane Schweitzer (Starboard) was able to take down Caio and allow Kai to secure his unprecedented 4th World Surfing Title.

While his victorious roll stopped in the semis, Kai was able to add another World Title to his name, as he returns home to a winter of big waves in Hawaii and prepares, hungrier than ever for the 2015 season.

Izzi Gomez dominates in 2014 to secure her groundbreaking first World Title

Izzi Gomez dominates in 2014 to secure her groundbreaking first World Title

Izzi Gomez (Starboard) is still 14 years old, but is an athlete that is way beyond her years, as she makes history this year by securing her first ever World Title with an impressively dominant performance on the 2014 Stand Up World Tour.

A slow start saw her finish in 7th place in Hawaii, which after a roll of wins in 2013 clearly unsettled the young Champion with obvious Title aspirations coming into the 2014 season.

However the tide changed in Brazil, as she went through the repechage to battle her way through to the Final with local favorite and 2013 World Champion Nicole Pacelli. She ended up coming out on top in a fiercely contested final heat, that gave her the momentum to go onto win every event from then on in the 2014 season, securing her to the 2014 World Title in advance of the Final event in France.

What an incredible achievement by any athlete, let alone from one so young, as it is clear that the young Izzi Gomez is destined for great things.

A final showing for Izzi in Morocco, saw her put on a solid performance against the men, making it through to Round 3 amidst some impressively fierce competition and benefiting from the unique adventure that this Location X provided.

She will now regroup and prepare for the 2015 season as it will all kick off for the girls at Turtle Bay in February for the 2015 Turtle Bay Women’s Pro. Make sure to stay tuned for recaps, highlights, news and much more at www.watermanleague.com
