We love us a good outdoor yoga practice – the park, the beach, there’s really nothing like hitting mountain pose with a sweet view of the mountains. This summer, we’re eager to get our feet wet and take our practice to the water. We caught up with Oakridge ambassador,Kristy Wright for the scoop on all things stand up paddleboard yoga.

My shoot with Danielle Brown was scheduled for 5am on a beach in Connecticut.

When I arrived, she was already in the water practicing. I’d never seen or felt so much stillness as I did that morning, taking in the graceful beauty of asana in the midst of the vast Long Island Sound. We did not speak — speaking would have caused ripples in the sea. And within a moment, a body of work was born. BY ROBERT STURMAN

Jessica Bellofatto, founder and director of KamaDeva Yoga in East Hampton, NY, is best known for her easy laughter, radiant energy, and matchless knowledge of the body. A mother, yogini, doula, surfer, triathlete, and avid stand up paddleboarder (and now SUP racer), Jessica has inspired thousands of students in their journey to better understand themselves and their world. She herself has been a dedicated student of Hatha Yoga for the past twenty years. Her interest in Yoga was piqued at the age of 18, while she was majoring in Dance at New York University. She completed the intensive year-long Teacher Training Program at the Jivamukti Yoga Center with beloved teachers Sharon Gannon and David Life in 1996 and has been teaching ever since. First and foremost a student, Jessica has studied extensively with many notable and amazing teachers, and has been most deeply influenced by her Jivamukti roots, along with the intensity of the Ashtanga Yoga system as taught by Sri K. Patabhi Jois, and the beauty, clarity, and intelligence of the Iyengar system.
