Ocean Driven inspiration- The Chris Bertish story

As we await the arrival of a feat never before known to man, the completion of a transatlantic stand up paddle crossing solo and unassisted by South African Chris Bertish, the celebration begins with the release of the trailer for Ocean Driven, a film chronicling his life story.

‘Ocean Driven’:  Get Ready to Be Inspired by the Chris Bertish story

Chris Bertish is scheduled to arrive in Antigua this Thursday, March 9, 2017 after having crossed over 4200 nautical miles on the IMPfish, a 20-foot long stand up paddle craft that Chris has self-powered across the Atlantic Ocean without assistance.  This historic event reverberates throughout the athletic and especially the stand up paddling world as one of the most inspirational stories ever told.  We all wait, with baited breath, for Chris to appear on the horizon.

In anticipation of that welcoming, Aurelia Productions has released the trailer to Chris’ upcoming film Ocean Driven, which will be available on iTunes, Amazon, Vimeo and other sites starting March 28th.  The film is the story of Chris Bertish and chronicles his 15+ year development as a fearless and highly skilled waterman.  The film features never-seen-before footage from a variety of Chris’ big wave surfing adventures from South Africa to Hawaii, Easter Island to Mexico, including the Biggest Wave award which he won at Todos Santos and the first paddle-in surf at Jaws (aka Pe’ahi).  And of course, it tells the tale of the 2010 Maverick’s Surf Contest, in the largest surf that contest has ever seen, where Chris Bertish heroically amidst the maelstrom that occurred, took home the 1st Place trophy.  A legendary feat and one that put Chris Bertish on the books.

Ocean Powered, one stroke at a time:  See you SOON, Chris!

Today however, Chris is surmounting that accomplishment through his valiant effort to raise money for unfortunate and underserved children in South Africa.  His undertaking, to cross the Atlantic Ocean on his stand up paddleboard, solo and unassisted, is one tale that may out streak his 2010 Maverick’s win.  Two days to go and we should see the faint outline of a man, standing on the water, working his way to shore one final stroke at a time.  I don’t know about you, dear readers, but I can’t wait for that hero’s welcome.  Godspeed, Chris.  See YOU soon.

You can follow Chris’ progress via his LIVE TRACKER on this website or check out his recent Captain’s Logs via his Facebook Page.  There is still time to donate to the cause and be a part of this monumental accomplishment!  Go to Chris’ website for donation information at:  www.thesupcrossing.com.

Stay tuned for an exclusive interview with Chris Bertish after his arrival later this week here at Standup Journal online where we strive to bring you the best, updated content on all things paddling and ocean related so that we may celebrate it all together.  Aloha!
