Stand Up Paddling Destination Martha’s Vineyard
The island of Martha’s Vineyard is located just off the southern coast of Massachusetts just a few hours from the Boston airport by car and ferry where standup paddling opportunities include everything from peeling point breaks to glassy inlets and estuaries. Standup paddling is exceptional year round with the right equipment; our best paddling conditions are from April- October, with September and October being our favorite months for tranquil flat-water paddling and SUP Surfing.
In order to stay at the forefront of the Stand Up Paddling movement Aloha Paddle MV is seeing the sport evolve beyond intro lessons and board rentals, and they are striving to cater to new and experienced paddlers alike.
To this end, they’re offering more adventurous guided paddles which allow experienced paddlers to enjoy more secluded, scenic and challenging paddling they would otherwise have limited access to. They’ve also added hike & paddle adventures using SUP hand-trailers to hike in the most secluded and scenic paddling on the island.
They have a sup complete services menu with catered Paddle and Paella Beach Cookouts that include a 1 hour guided paddle outing complemented by a paella cookout over coals on the beach.
Health & Adventure Stand Up Paddling Retreats
Aloha Paddle MV strives to spread the healthy lifestyle that accompanies standup paddling. They will be offering weekend paddle and adventure getaways which allow people to get a real feel of the natural wonders of Martha’s Vineyard thru paddling, hiking, biking and yoga. These retreats are all inclusive with lodging, healthy local meals and all outdoor activities. We would eventually like to offer them in international locations.
Adapted SUP | Helping People With Special Needs
We have a passion for working with special needs clients and see both the therapeutic and recreational benefits of SUP. We hope to continue to offer lessons to clients with Autism and other exceptionalities including clients with physical disabilities. In order to open the sport to all, we will be designing and/or fundraising for a wheel chair accessible standup paddleboard this winter.
The Founders of ALOHA PADDLE MV 2016
Returning to her former home on Martha’s Vineyard after living in Hawaii for 10 years, Nico Corbo was inspired to spread the aloha spirit and her love for the ocean when she founded Aloha Paddle MV in 2012. During her time in Hawaii she worked as a special education teacher, led kayak tours, and taught surfing lessons and learned to the love the Sport of Stand Up Paddling. Since her return she has earned certifications with World Paddling Assoc., Paddle Fit, and Yoga Teacher Training from Yoga Barn MV. She especially loves how people of all abilities can enjoy the sport and experience nature from a whole new perspective. She believes in the healthy lifestyle promoted through the Paddling community and believes this can be beneficial to all.
Summer of 2004 Adrian packed into his van loaded high with windsurfers and left his lifelong home in the Canadian Rockies bound for the Eastern Seaboard and a life closer to the ocean. While on a windless windsurfing trip to Cape Hatteras in 2010 he discovered SUP and has since become deeply connected with the sport’s versatile nature and ability to bring balance into his life. Adrian says, “SUP is like a one-stop-shop for everything I’ve come to love about sports, and it’s always open, so you can’t help but just keep coming back for more!” A lifelong athlete with a ten year snowboarding career to his credit, Adrian’s passion for sport is complemented by his personable and fun-loving character.
Both Nicole and Adrian’s experience in SUP includes short and long distance racing, 30+ mile marathon events and the Dave Kalama Technique Training.
Adrian met Nico in 2012 after he attended a beach party which rented SUPs from Aloha Paddle MV. This past winter the two SUP-lovers backpacked around the world and got engaged in Kathmandu Nepal, proving that SUP has changed both their lives for the better! They decided one night in a hostel in Vietnam that they would run Aloha Paddle MV together this summer, combining both of their experience to create a more progressive standup paddling business on the world class waters of Martha’s Vineyard.
