Having just submitted his always classic West Side column for the big “Santa Cruz Sup Scene” feature in our Fall issue of Standup Journal, Steve West wound down his day with this “day in the life” of a local sup dude:
The sign said, “No SUP’s”; but I decided to go anyway.
Glassy, tiny and no one out @ 8:00 am.
Headed up to Sharks Cove.
Zippy little waves in 12 inches of water. I surfed all by myself for
the first hour.
Kickout before dry reef.
Kirby shows up and doubles the amount of people out.
Glassy or what?
Fog has burned off and it’s Paula’s for breakfast.
Had to borrow three bucks.
Basic breakfast; scrambled w/spinach, home fries,
soughdough toast and coffee. I added lots of corn salsa.
On the second cup and all pau.
Paula’s wall art. Helps with the appetite.
