The Gorge Paddle Challenge lived up to it’s name with tough conditions and the deepest field of men and women paddlers assembled this year.
The course race on day one was a hot and flat grind. Day two saw decent downwind conditions for the first race of the ‘double downwinder’.
The second leg of the 8-mile double downwinder saw conditions deteriorate with light winds and then eventually side wind as paddlers came through the up-river finish.
Jerry Bess told me that the downwinders where harder than his Molokai experience this year! Congratulations to all of the paddlers who made it through a fun but grueling weekend of racing! –Chase[lightbox full=”http://standupjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Chase-Kosterlitz-Gorge-Paddle-Challenge-Recap-1.jpg”][/lightbox] [divider] [lightbox full=”http://standupjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Chase-Kosterlitz-Gorge-Paddle-Challenge-Recap-2.jpg”][/lightbox] [divider] [lightbox full=”http://standupjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Chase-Kosterlitz-Gorge-Paddle-Challenge-Recap-3.jpg”][/lightbox] [divider] [lightbox full=”http://standupjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Chase-Kosterlitz-Gorge-Paddle-Challenge-Recap-4.jpg”][/lightbox]
