After some rumblings in the industry last week after SIC lost Sonni Honnscheid to Starboard and some other notable departures, SIC Maui announced the signing on of two new stellar athletes to their Global Team line up.

SIC Maui Global Team

The SIC Global Team boasts a diverse and talented group of athletes including Lina Augaitus, Caio Vaz, Andrea Moller, Livio Menelau, Jeremy Riggs and, moving up from the National Team, Tamas Buday. With this week’s signing, the team now brings on the proven efforts of young Kody Kerbox and Saychelle Hattingh into the mix.

SIC Ambassador Program is about Design Feedback

SIC Maui points out that the R & D and ambassador programs are really about team feedback and testing in order to modify, enhance and design top-of-the-line equipment.

Founder and lead designer/shaper for SIC. Mark Raaphorst supports this in saying,

“In addition to seeking podiums, we want the lessons that we learn from our athletes and from design evolution to ultimately benefit the recreational paddler in all disciplines. At the end of the day, competition is about celebrating the winners and their accomplishments, but paddling is about community.”

Kody: “It’s a dream come true!”

Kody Kerbox, formally of Team Naish , is enthusiastic about his new direction with SIC.  He exclaims,

“I am excited to take my open ocean racing to the next level over the next few seasons in hopes of contending with the best in the world in Hawaiian waters for many years to come!”

Kody pronounced his intention to retire from the Waterman League (now APP) World Tour back in October of 2016 in order to concentrate more fully on open water events such as the Maliko run and Hawaiian channel crossings.  Kody will continue to compete in the Colombia Gorge Paddle Challenge and the Pacific Paddle Games

Saychelle:  “Can’t wait to begin training in Maui”

Likewise, Saychelle Hattingh, a rising star and favorite athlete to many, was equally effervescent in her response, ““I couldn’t be more thrilled to join the SIC global team,” she exclaimed.

“I am excited to work with founder and designer Mark Raaphorst on the new product lines for 2018 and to most of all diversify my skills as a standup paddler by learning from some of the best downwinders in the sport. “

Saychelle was named as “Breakthough Performer” of 2016 and is well known for her World Record setting of paddling 110 miles in 24 hours back in December of 2015.   SIC has brought on two young guns of amazing caliber to round out the SIC Maui’s Global Team.  Onward into 2017!
